Responsibilities and Qualifications:

The Material Handler is responsible for safely and efficiently managing production materials, including resin blends, material staging, mold/material changeovers, machine supply, scrap and reject handling, and material area organization. The role requires forklift operation, accurate resin identification and blending, strong communication across shifts and departments, and consistent adherence to safety, FIFO, and 5S practices.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Follow all Safety rules and Company policies.
  • Maintain forklift certification and conduct pre-forklift inspections, submitting inspection forms daily.
  • Be ready for shift handshake and open to feedback with all team members.
  • Follow mold change sequence and production priorities; check part numbers through Syspro or the Quality department and perform all preparations for changeovers.
  • Identify all resins in use at NDS production, whether purchased or made in, granulated or virgin form.
  • Autonomously explain the correct blends for NDS production requirements, including standard blends, engineering blends, and custom blends.
  • Prepare daily resin blends for 24-hour Production Consumption.
  • Maintain good verbal communication and remain open to feedback from all departments.
  • Pass off all updates from shift to shift.
  • Recommend changes to resin blends to improve efficiency and teamwork.
  • Stage resin blends in correct locations and place labels on gaylords and containers.
  • Adjust resin blending as needed from the production schedule.
  • Proceed with mold/material changes until relieved by the daytime Material Supervisor or Shift Supervisor.
  • Supply machines with correct materials using proper formulas.
  • Clean mesh filters on top of machines and support the team in troubleshooting automatic loaders.
  • Be available for weekend work.
  • Paddle blend batches as needed during the shift according to the mold schedule.
  • Use basic math to troubleshoot all resin blends and know ratios for resin blends.
  • Maintain 5S in all work areas, equipment and store locations as a top priority; follow FIFO practices in all resin locations.
  • Monitor machines for the need for additives, color concentrate, and changes due to scheduled molding in a timely manner.
  • Identify all scrap/rejects by type and color; sort out mixed scrap/rejects, store resins, and distribute materials in an organized, efficient, and timely manner.
  • Report any part defects to the supervisor, lead foreman, and Quality Control Inspector.
  • Clean out pumps of fines and dust and clean out socks when needed.
  • Follow all procedures in work areas, organize and maintain the area professionally, and maintain the work environment.
  • Reuse gaylords and containers only when clean; strip off all labels and identify them with the correct label.
  • Clean metal material bins inside and out before refilling.
  • Perform changeovers with the resin manifold from silos to automatic loaders; flush out lines as needed for resin type and resin color.
  • Perform any other jobs as directed from time to time by supervision.
  • Operate dryers correctly; follow directions for dryer operation and troubleshoot dryers as needed.

Position Requirements

  • High School or better.
  • Forklift certified with at least two years of experience.
